Here we go again! Cape Town, South Africa. A new destination, a new adventure.
So, this trip came about out of nowhere. Although we had thought about South Africa before, it wasn't really in the forefront of places for us to go. That is until I got an email with an offer of cheap airfare that I just couldn't refuse. Delta put this destination on sale for only a day or two and when I got their email, I called Sonja at work and asked "want to go to South Africa?" Of course, she hemmed and hawed for a few minutes and I told her that this fare wouldn't be around in a day or two and if we were going to do it, I had to jump on it. Her response? "What the hell? We only live once, right?"
But we are prepared!
And so, our Cape Town adventure was born.
What Do We Have Planned?
This is going to be a 10 day trip, including a day stopover in Amsterdam on the way back. Break up that long flight in a city we love.
Although our destination is Cape Town, that will be mainly our jumping off point to our adventures. We plan on a first day, eight hour walking and eating tour of Cape Town. This should give us the lay of the land and I'm sure, some foods we've never tried before. If the weather is good that day, we're going to try and head up to the top of Table Mountain for sunset.
We'll have a rental car. This will be my second time driving on the opposite side of the road. Did so in the United Kingdom and, as far as I know, didn't hit anyone or damage any other vehicles. On our second day, we're going to drive to the Cape of Good Hope along the Cape Point Drive. This is supposed to be one of the most stunning drives in the world. Looking forward to it.
We'll also be spending 2 days, 1 night at the Aquila Game Reserve. It's about 3 hours from Cape Town and we'll be going on a couple of game drives, hoping to see the big five (Lions, Tigers, Hippos, Rhinos and Cheetahs). On our way back, a detour to Hermanus for a round of golf.
A tour of Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned). Add in a couple of surprises for Sonja and this should be one helluva trip.
We hope you can come along and share our South African adventure!
