A Bit of British With Our Golf

Did you happen to know that we took up golf?

Part of the fun of travel is the opportunity to enjoy our favorite pastime in different surroundings with different people.  Our golf outing at Hermanus Golf Club was a perfect day.

The Scenery Was Beautiful

The Wildlife Was Unique

First time we ever played with Springbok on the course.

A Couple of British Tarts

When you're golfing, sometimes you get paired with people you wish you had never met.  Doesn't happen to often but it can really make for a bad golf day when you have trouble with the other folks in the group.

Not so in South Africa.  We got paired with a couple of ladies from London who were on vacation.  I guess the best way to describe them is two British barflies.  They were old and crusty but made us laugh all day long with their stories and their slang with a couple of curse words thrown in for good measure.  We thoroughly enjoyed our day with these lovely ladies.

After a tee shot that was a low runner, they proclaimed to me that I had hit a "Sally".  Apparently there was an olympic runner from the UK that was a bit homely.  So my shot was an ugly runner.

And we played well too...

A Fantastic Dinner Spot

The day was topped off by a great meal at a restaurant named Ficks.  It's a seaside restaurant with a gigantic salt water pool where the kids swim and the view is special.

The food was pretty darned good too...

Back to Cape Town for a good night's sleep and then on to Robbens Island for a tour of the prison where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years imprisoned.

Good night all...
